Given a sequence c=(ck)k∈Z∈ℓ2(Z)c = \left(c_{k}\right)_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} \in \ell^{2}(\mathbb {Z}), let TncT_{n} c denote the translated sequence Tnc=(ck−n)k∈ZT_{n} c = \left(c_{k-n}\right)_{k \in \mathbb {Z}}. Characterize those sequences cc such that {Tnc}n∈Z\left\{ T_{n} c\right\}_{n \in \mathbb {Z}} is complete, Bessel, minimal, a frame, a Schauder basis, a Riesz basis, or an orthonormal basis for ℓ2(Z)\ell^{2}(\mathbb {Z}).

Let g∈L2(R)g \in L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) and a>0a > 0 be given, and define h(x)=g(ax)h(x) = g(a x). Show that {g(x−ak)}k∈Z\left\{ g(x-a k)\right\}_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} is a frame sequence in L2(R)L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) if and only if {h(x−k)}k∈Z\left\{ h(x-k)\right\}_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} is a frame sequence in L2(R)L^{2}(\mathbb {R}). What is the relation between the closed spans of these two systems?

Given a function f∈L1(R)f \in L^{1}(\mathbb {R}) and given a>0a > 0, we call the function

φ(x)=∑n∈Zf(x+an) \varphi (x) = \sum _{n \in \mathbb {Z}} f(x+a n)

the aa-periodization of ff (or simply the periodization if a=1a = 1). Show that the series defining φ\varphi converges absolutely in L1[0,a]L^{1}[0, a], and

∫0aφ(x)dx=∫−∞∞f(x)dx \int _{0}^{a} \varphi (x) d x = \int _{-\infty }^{\infty } f(x) d x

In particular, the bracket product of f,g∈L2(R)f, g \in L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) is the function [f,g]∈L1(T)[f, g] \in L^{1}(\mathbf{T}) defined by

[f,g](x)=∑n∈Zf(x+n)g(x+n)‾ [f, g](x) = \sum _{n \in \mathbb {Z}} f(x+n) \overline{g(x+n)}

Suppose that g∈L2(R)g \in L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) is such that M(g^)={e−2πikξg^(ξ)}k∈Z\mathcal{M}(\widehat{g}) = \left\{ e^{-2 \pi i k \xi } \widehat{g}(\xi )\right\}_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} is a Bessel sequence in L2(R)L^{2}(\mathbb {R}). By Theorem 7.2, if (ck)k∈Z∈ℓ2(Z)\left(c_{k}\right)_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} \in \ell^{2}(\mathbb {Z}) then the series F(ξ)=∑k∈Zcke−2πikξg^(ξ)F(\xi ) = \sum_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} c_{k} e^{-2 \pi i k \xi } \widehat{g}(\xi ) converges unconditionally in L2(R)L^{2}(\mathbb {R}). Also, since {e−2πikξ}k∈Z\left\{ e^{-2 \pi i k \xi }\right\}_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} is an orthonormal basis for L2(T)L^{2}(\mathbf{T}) the series c^(ξ)=∑k∈Zcke−2πikξ\hat{c}(\xi ) = \sum_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} c_{k} e^{-2 \pi i k \xi } converges unconditionally in L2(T)L^{2}(\mathbf{T}).
