Suppose that f,g∈L2(R)f, g \in L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) are such that T(f)\mathcal{T}(f) and T(g)\mathcal{T}(g) are both orthonormal sequences.

?
(a)

Show that T(f)\mathcal{T}(f) and T(g)\mathcal{T}(g) have the same closed spans if and only if f^(ξ)=α(ξ)g^(ξ)\widehat{f}(\xi ) = \alpha (\xi ) \widehat{g}(\xi ) a.e., where α\alpha is 1 -periodic and ∣α(ξ)∣=1\left|\alpha (\xi )\right| = 1 a.e.

(b)

Show that if ff and gg are each compactly supported, then span⁡‾(T(f))=span⁡‾(T(g))\overline{\operatorname {span}}(\mathcal{T}(f)) = \overline{\operatorname {span}}(\mathcal{T}(g)) if and only f=αTkgf = \alpha T_{k} g where k∈Zk \in \mathbb {Z} and α\alpha is a scalar with ∣α∣=1\left|\alpha \right| = 1.

Suppose that g∈L2(R)g \in L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) is compactly supported. Show that G(g,1,1)\mathcal{G}(g, 1,1) is an orthonormal basis for L2(R)L^{2}(\mathbb {R}) if and only if ∣g∣=χE\left|g\right| = \chi_{E} for some bounded set E⊆RE \subseteq \mathbb {R} that satisfies ∑k∈ZχE(x−k)=1\sum_{k \in \mathbb {Z}} \chi_{E}(x-k) = 1 a.e.
