If {ej}\left\{ e_{j}\right\} is an orthonormal basis for a functional Hilbert space H\mathbf{H}, then the kernel function KK of H\mathbf{H} is given by

K(x,y)=∑jej(x)ej(y)∗. K(x, y) = \sum _{j} e_{j}(x) e_{j}(y)^{*}.

What are the kernel functions of A2A^{2} and of H~2\tilde{H}^{2}?

If H\mathbf{H} is a functional Hilbert space, over XX say, then the linear functional f↦f(y)f \mapsto f(y) on H\mathbf{H} is bounded for each yy in XX, and, consequently, there exists, for each yy in XX, an element KyK_{y} of H\mathbf{H} such that f(y)=⟨f,Ky⟩f(y) = \left\langle f, K_{y} \right\rangle for all ff. The function KK on X×XX \times X, defined by K(x,y)=Ky(x)K(x, y) = K_{y}(x), is called the kernel function or the reproducing kernel of H\mathbf{H}. The kernel functions of A2A^{2} and of H~2\tilde{H}^{2} are known, respectively, as the Bergman kernel and the Szegő kernel. If f∈H2f \in H^{2}, its image f~\tilde{f} in H~2\tilde{H}^{2} (the set of those functions analytic in the unit disc whose series of Taylor coefficients is square-summable) may be spoken of as the extension of ff into the interior.

The extension mapping f↦f~f \mapsto \tilde{f} (from H2H^{2} to H~2\tilde{H}^{2}) is continuous not only in the Hilbert space sense, but also in the sense appropriate to analytic functions. That is: if fn→ff_{n} \to f in H2H^{2}, then f~n(z)→f~(z)\tilde{f}_{n}(z) \to \tilde{f}(z) for ∣z∣<1\left|z\right| < 1, and, in fact, the convergence is uniform on each disc {z:∣z∣≤r}\left\{ z : \left|z\right| \leq r\right\}, 0<r<10 < r < 1.

If an element ff of H2H^{2} is such that the corresponding analytic function f~\tilde{f} in H~2\tilde{H}^{2} is bounded, then ff is bounded (i.e., f∈H∞f \in H^{\infty }).

?

If f∈H∞f \in H^{\infty }, does it follow that f~\tilde{f} is bounded?

?

Is the mapping f↦f~f \mapsto \tilde{f} multiplicative?

Fix α∈U\alpha \in U. Prove that the mapping f→f(α)f \rightarrow f(\alpha ) is a bounded linear functional on H2H^{2}. Since H2H^{2} is a Hilbert space, this functional can be represented as an inner product with some g∈H2g \in H^{2}. Find this gg.

Fix α∈U\alpha \in U. How large can ∣f′(α)∣\left|f^{\prime }(\alpha )\right| be if ∥f∥2≤1\left\| f\right\|_{2} \leq 1? Find the extremal functions. Do the same for f(n)(α)f^{(n)}(\alpha ).
