Let GG be an open connected subset of the complex plane, ff an analytic function in GG, not identically 00, and nn a positive integer. Assume that ff has an analytic nn-th root in GG; that is, there is an analytic function gg in GG such that gn=fg^{n} = f. Prove that ff has exactly nn analytic nn-th roots in GG.

Give an example of a continuous real valued function on [0,1][0,1] that has more than two continuous square roots on [0,1][0,1].

(1)

Prove that if ff is holomorphic on the unit disc D\mathbb {D} and f(z)≠0f(z) \neq 0 for all z∈Dz \in \mathbb {D}, then there is a holomorphic function gg on D\mathbb {D} such that f(z)=eg(z)f(z) = e^{g(z)} for all z∈Dz \in \mathbb {D}.

(2)

Does the conclusion of Part 1 remain true if D\mathbb {D} is replaced by an arbitrary connected open set in C\mathbb {C}?

Let f(z)f(z) be analytic in the annulus Ω={1<∣z∣<2}\Omega = \left\{ 1 < \left|z\right| < 2\right\}. Assume that ff has no zeros in Ω\Omega. Show that there exists an integer nn and an analytic function gg in Ω\Omega such that, for all z∈Ωz \in \Omega, f(z)=zneg(z)f(z) = z^{n} e^{g(z)}.

Suppose Ω\Omega is a simply connected region, f∈H(Ω),ff \in H(\Omega ), f has no zero in Ω\Omega, and nn is a positive integer. Prove that there exists a g∈H(Ω)g \in H(\Omega ) such that gn=fg^{n} = f.

?

Suppose Ω\Omega is a region, f∈H(Ω)f \in H(\Omega ), and f≢0f \not\equiv 0. Prove that ff has a holomorphic logarithm in Ω\Omega if and only if ff has holomorphic nnth roots in Ω\Omega for every positive integer nn.

Let the function f:G→Cf: G \rightarrow \mathbb {C} be regular and nonzero in the domain GG.

Must the expression {f(z)}\left\{ \sqrt{f(z)}\right\} represent a function analytic in the domain GG?

(2)
