Problem 3.6.1

Let k⩾2k \geqslant 2, and let λk:Bk→R‾\lambda_{k}: \mathscr {B}^{k} \rightarrow \overline{\mathbb {R}} denote the unique measure with domain Bk\mathscr {B}^{k} that assigns the value ∏i=1k(bi−ai)\prod_{i=1}^{k}\left(b_{i}-a_{i}\right) to each kk-dimensional rsc rectangle ( a,b\boldsymbol {a}, \boldsymbol {b} ]. Let A={x∈Rk:x2=⋯=xk=0}A=\left\{ \boldsymbol {x} \in \mathbb {R}^{k}: x_{2}=\cdots =x_{k}=0\right\}. Then A∈Bk,AA \in \mathscr {B}^{k}, A is uncountable, and λk(A)=0\lambda_{k}(A)=0, hence ∣Bk‾∣=2c \left|\overline{\mathscr {B}^{k}}\right|=2^{\text{c }}.

Problem 3.6.2

Let (Ω,F,v)(\Omega , \mathcal{F}, v) denote a measure space. If A,B∈FA, B \in \mathcal{F} with A⊆E⊆BA \subseteq E \subseteq B and ν(B\A)=0\nu (B \backslash A)=0, then E∈F‾E \in \overline{\mathcal{F}} and νˉ(E)=ν(A)=ν(B)\bar{\nu }(E)=\nu (A)=\nu (B).

Problem 3.6.3

Let ( Ω,F,v\Omega , \mathcal{F}, v ) denote a measure space. Furthermore, let F1\mathcal{F}_{1} denote a sub- σ\sigma-field of F1\mathcal{F}^{1}. Then there exists a minimal σ\sigma-field F2\mathcal{F}_{2} such that F1⊆F2⊆F\mathcal{F}_{1} \subseteq \mathcal{F}_{2} \subseteq \mathcal{F} and N(v)⊆F2\mathcal{N}(v) \subseteq \mathcal{F}_{2}. Also, A∈F2A \in \mathcal{F}_{2} iff there exists B∈F1B \in \mathcal{F}_{1} with AΔB∈N(v)A \Delta B \in \mathcal{N}(v).
