Problem 1.6.1

If ∣ξ∣\left|\xi \right| is an F\mathcal{F}-measurable function, is it true that ξ\xi is also F\mathcal{F}-measurable?

?
Problem 1.6.2

Let ξ,η\xi , \eta be two random variables defined on (Ω,F)(\Omega , \mathcal{F}). Let, moreover, A∈FA \in \mathcal{F}. Prove that the function

ζ(ω)=ξ(ω)I(ω∈A)+η(ω)I(ω∈Aˉ) \zeta (\omega )=\xi (\omega ) I(\omega \in A)+\eta (\omega ) I(\omega \in \bar{A})

is also a random variable.

?
Problem 1.6.3

Let ξ,η\xi , \eta be two random variables defined on (Ω,F)(\Omega , \mathcal{F}). We have

{ξ=η}:={ω∈Ω∣ξ(ω)=η(ω)}. \left\{ \xi = \eta \right\} := \left\{ \omega \in \Omega \mid \xi (\omega ) = \eta (\omega )\right\} .

Prove that {ξ=η}∈F\left\{ \xi =\eta \right\} \in \mathcal{F}.

Problem 1.6.4

A random variable ξ\xi has an exponential distribution with parameter λ\lambda. Find the densities of the random variables:

  1. ξk,k∈N\xi^{k}, k \in \mathbb {N}

  2. 1λln⁡ξ\frac{1}{\lambda } \ln \xi

  3. {ξ}\left\{ \xi \right\}, where {⋅}\left\{ \cdot \right\} is the fractional part,

  4. 1−e−αξ1-e^{-\alpha \xi }.

?
Problem 1.6.5

A random variable ξ\xi has a standard Cauchy distribution. Find the densities of the random variables

  • ξ21+ξ2\frac{\xi^{2}}{1+\xi^{2}},

  • 11+ξ2\frac{1}{1+\xi^{2}},

  • 2ξ1−ξ2\frac{2 \xi }{1-\xi^{2}},

  • 1ξ\frac{1}{\xi }.

?
Problem 1.6.6

A random variable ξ\xi is uniformly distributed on the interval (a,b)(a, b), where −∞<a<b<∞-\infty <a<b<\infty. Find the density of the random variable ξ2\xi^{2}.

?
Problem 1.6.7

The density of the random vector (ξ,η)(\xi , \eta ) equals

1π/4  1x2+y2<1,x>0,y>0 \frac{1}{\pi / 4} \; \mathbb {1}_{x^{2}+y^{2}<1, x>0, y>0}

Find the densities of the random variables ξ,η,ξ+η\xi , \eta , \xi +\eta.

Problem 1.6.8

A web graph GG is a directed graph whose vertices 1,…,N1, \ldots , N correspond to pages on the Internet, and whose edges correspond to links. One of the most well-known search factors is called PageRank. The idea of PageRank is based on the following model of user behavior. At each moment of time n∈Nn \in \mathbb {N}, the user either follows a link with probability 0.85 (with equal probability for each link), or chooses an arbitrary page with probability 0.15 (with equal probability for each page). At time n=0n=0 the user chooses each page with probability 1/N1 / N. Let ξ1\xi_{1} be the number of the page on which the user finds himself at time 1, and ξ2\xi_{2} at time 2. If GG is a directed simple cycle or a complete graph with loops, devise a probability space and define on it the random vector (ξ1,ξ2)\left(\xi_{1}, \xi_{2}\right). Find its distribution.

?
Problem 1.6.9

Let ξ\xi be a random variable with continuous distribution function FF. What is the distribution of the random variable F(ξ)F(\xi )?

?
Problem 1.6.10

Let ξ1,ξ2,…\xi_{1}, \xi_{2}, \ldots be an infinite Bernoulli scheme, where

P(ξi=1)=P(ξi=0)=12 \mathbb {P}\left(\xi _{i}=1\right)=\mathbb {P}\left(\xi _{i}=0\right)=\frac{1}{2}

for any i∈Ni \in \mathbb {N}. Devise a probability space with random variables ξ1,ξ2,…\xi_{1}, \xi_{2}, \ldots defined on it and a function f:R∞→Rf: \mathbb {R}^{\infty } \rightarrow \mathbb {R} such that

P(f(ξ1,ξ2,…)=1)=13 \mathbb {P}\left(f\left(\xi _{1}, \xi _{2}, \ldots \right)=1\right)=\frac{1}{3}
