Problem III.7.1

If LL is a Banach limit, show that there are xx and yy in l∞l^\infty such that L(xy)≠L(x)L(y)L(xy) \neq L(x)L(y).

Problem III.7.2

Let XX be a set and Ω\Omega a σ\sigma-algebra of subsets of XX. Suppose μ\mu is a complex-valued countably additive measure defined on Ω\Omega such that ∥μ∥=μ(X)<∞\left\| \mu \right\| = \mu (X) < \infty. Show that μ(Δ)≥0\mu (\Delta ) \geq 0 for every Δ\Delta in Ω\Omega. (Though it is difficult to see at this moment, this fact is related to the proof of (c) in Theorem 7.1 for the complex case.)

Problem III.7.3

Show that if x∈l∞x \in l^\infty, ∥x∥∞≤1\left\| x\right\|_{\infty } \leq 1, then there is a sequence {xn}\left\{ x_n\right\}, xnx_n in l∞l^\infty such that ∥xn∥∞≤1\left\| x_n\right\|_{\infty } \leq 1, ∥xn−x∥∞→0\left\| x_n - x\right\|_{\infty } \to 0, and each xnx_n takes on only a finite number of values.
