Problem 4.1

A functional ff on the subspace G={(x1,0)∣x1∈R}G = \left\{ \left(x_{1}, 0\right) \mid x_{1} \in \mathbb {R}\right\} of the space R2\mathbb {R}^{2} is defined by the formula f(x)=αx1,x=(x1,0)∈Gf(x) = \alpha x_{1}, x = \left(x_{1}, 0\right) \in G, where α∈R\alpha \in \mathbb {R} is fixed.

Describe all linear extensions FF of the functional ff to R2\mathbb {R}^{2}. For which of these extensions ∥F∥=∥f∥\left\| F\right\| = \left\| f\right\|, if R2\mathbb {R}^{2} is endowed with the norm ∥⋅∥p,1≤p≤+∞\left\| \cdot \right\|_{p}, 1 \leq p \leq +\infty? In which cases the extension that preserves the norm is unique?

Problem 4.2

Let G={x∈C([0,1])∣∫01x(t)dt=0,x(1)=0}G = \left\{ x \in C(\left[0,1\right]) \mid \int_{0}^{1} x(t) d t = 0, x(1) = 0\right\}. Construct a functional f∈(C([0,1]))∗f \in (C(\left[0,1\right]))^{*} such that f(x)=0,x∈Gf(x) = 0, x \in G, and f(x1)=f(x2)=1f\left(x_{1}\right) = f\left(x_{2}\right) = 1, where x1(t)=1,x2(t)=1−t,t∈[0,1]x_{1}(t) = 1, x_{2}(t) = 1-t, t \in [0,1].

(2)

∀x∈C([a,b]):F(x)=0\forall x \in C(\left[a, b\right]): F(x) = 0.
