Problem 13.1

Whether a filtration satisfies the usual conditions depends on the class of null sets and hence the probability measure involved matters. Suppose {Ft}\left\{ \mathcal{F}_{t}\right\} satisfies the usual conditions with respect to P,H\mathbb {P}, H is a bounded predictable process, WW a Brownian motion with respect to P,M\mathbb {P}, M defined by (13.3), and Q\mathbb {Q} defined by (13.4). If t0>0t_{0}>0 and A∈σ(Ws;s≤t0)A \in \sigma \left(W_{s} ; s \leq t_{0}\right), show P(A)=0\mathbb {P}\left(A\right)=0 if and only if Q(A)=0\mathbb {Q}(A)=0.

Problem 13.2

Theorem 9.10 allows us to avoid some calculations in the last paragraph of the proof of Theorem 13.3. Suppose XX is a continuous semimartingale under P\mathbb {P} and Q\mathbb {Q} is a probability measure equivalent to P\mathbb {P}. That is, a set is a null set for P\mathbb {P} if and only if it is a null set for Q\mathbb {Q}. Show XX is a semimartingale under Q\mathbb {Q} and the quadratic variation of XX under P\mathbb {P} equals the quadratic variation of XX under Q\mathbb {Q}.

Problem 13.3

Let W=(W1,…,Wd)W=\left(W^{1}, \ldots , W^{d}\right) be a dd-dimensional Brownian motion with minimal augmented filtration {Ft}\left\{ \mathcal{F}_{t}\right\} and let H1,…,HdH_{1}, \ldots , H_{d} be bounded predictable processes. Let

Mt=exp⁡(∑i=1d∫0tHi(s)dWsi−12∑i=1d∫0t∣Hi(s)∣2ds) M_{t}=\exp \left(\sum _{i=1}^{d} \int _{0}^{t} H_{i}(s) d W_{s}^{i}-\frac{1}{2} \sum _{i=1}^{d} \int _{0}^{t}\left|H_{i}(s)\right|^{2} d s\right)

Define a probability measure Q\mathbb {Q} by setting Q(A)=\meanP[Mt;A]\mathbb {Q}(A)=\mean_{\mathbb {P}}\left[M_{t} ; A\right] if A∈FtA \in \mathcal{F}_{t}. Let W~ti=Wti−\widetilde{W}_{t}^{i}=W_{t}^{i}- ∫0tHi(s)ds\int_{0}^{t} H_{i}(s) d s for each ii. Prove that W~=(W~1,…,W~d)\widetilde{W}=\left(\widetilde{W}^{1}, \ldots , \widetilde{W}^{d}\right) is a dd-dimensional Brownian motion under Q\mathbb {Q}.

Problem 13.4

Let WtW_{t} be a dd-dimensional Brownian motion and let δ,t0>0\delta , t_{0}>0. Let f:[0,t0]→Rdf:\left[0, t_{0}\right] \rightarrow \mathbb {R}^{d} be a continuous function. Prove that there exists a constant cc such that

P(sup⁡s≤t0∣Ws−f(s)∣<δ)>c \mathbb {P}\left(\sup _{s \leq t_{0}}\left|W_{s}-f(s)\right|<\delta \right)>c

This is known as the support theorem for Brownian motion.

Hint: First assume that ff has a bounded derivative. Use Exercise 4.9 and the Girsanov theorem.

?
Problem 13.5

Here is a more general form of the Girsanov theorem. Suppose LtL_{t} is a bounded continuous martingale under P\mathbb {P}, Mt=eLt−⟨L⟩t/2M_{t}=e^{L_{t}-\langle L\rangle_{t}/2}, and Q\mathbb {Q} is a probability measure defined by Q(A)=EP[Mt0;A]\mathbb {Q}(A)=\mathbb {E}_{\mathbb {P}}\left[M_{t_{0}} ; A\right] if A∈Ft0A \in \mathcal{F}_{t_{0}}. Suppose {Ft}\left\{ \mathcal{F}_{t}\right\} is a filtration satisfying the usual conditions with respect to both P\mathbb {P} and Q\mathbb {Q}. Show that if XX is a martingale under P\mathbb {P}, then Xt−⟨X,L⟩tX_{t}-\langle X, L\rangle_{t} is a martingale under Q\mathbb {Q}.
