Problem 3E.1

Suppose TT is a function from VV to WW. The graph of TT is the subset of V×WV \times W defined by

 graph of T={(v,Tv)∈V×W:v∈V}. \text{ graph of } T = \left\{ (v, T v) \in V \times W: v \in V\right\} .

Prove that TT is a linear map if and only if the graph of TT is a subspace of V×WV \times W.

?
Remark.
?

Formally, a function TT from VV to WW is a subset TT of V×WV \times W such that for each v∈Vv \in V, there exists exactly one element (v,w)∈T(v, w) \in T. In other words, formally a function is what is called above its graph. We do not usually think of functions in this formal manner. However, if we do become formal, then this exercise could be rephrased as follows: Prove that a function TT from VV to WW is a linear map if and only if TT is a subspace of V×WV \times W.
