Prove that a linear topological space satisfies the third separation axiom T3T_{3}.

?

Prove that a linear topological space is separated (i.e., satisfies the first separation axiom T1T_{1}) if and only if the intersection of all neighborhoods of zero consists only of zero. In particular, every locally bounded linear topological space is separated.

?

Prove that a polynormed space XX is Hausdorff with respect to the topology generated by the system of its seminorms {pα}α∈A\left\{ p_{\alpha }\right\}_{\alpha \in A} if and only if for every vector x∈X,x≠0x \in X, x \neq 0, there exists a seminorm pα,α=α(x)p_{\alpha }, \alpha = \alpha (x), such that pα(x)>0p_{\alpha }(x) > 0.

?

Prove that the spaces s,l2∞,C∞[0,1],A(D),C(R)s, l_{2}^{\infty }, C^{\infty }[0,1], \mathcal{A}(D), C(\mathbb {R}) and Ce[0,1]C_{\mathrm{e}}[0,1] are Hausdorff.

?

Suppose that X\mathscr {X} is a TVS but do not assume that X\mathscr {X} is Hausdorff.

?
(a)

Show that X\mathscr {X} is Hausdorff if and only if the singleton set {0}\left\{ 0\right\} is closed.

(b)

If X\mathscr {X} is Hausdorff, show that X\mathscr {X} is a regular topological space.

Let VV be a neighborhood of 0 in a topological vector space XX. Prove that there is a real continuous function ff on XX such that f(0)=0f(0) = 0 and f(x)=1f(x) = 1 outside VV. (Thus XX is a completely regular topological space). Suggestion: Let VnV_{n} be balanced neighborhoods of 0 such that V1+V1⊂VV_{1}+V_{1} \subset V and Vn+1+Vn+1⊊VnV_{n+1}+V_{n+1} \subsetneq V_{n}. Construct ff as in the proof of Theorem 1.24. Show that ff is continuous at 0 and that

∣f(x)−f(y)∣≤f(x−y) \left|f(x)-f(y)\right| \leq f(x-y)
