Let C={x∈R3:0≤xi≤1}C = \{ x \in \mathbb {R}^{3} : 0 \leq x_i \leq 1\} be the unit cube in R3\mathbb {R}^{3}. Suppose F:R3→R4F : \mathbb {R}^{3} \to \mathbb {R}^{4} is a 1−11-1 C∞C^\infty immersion in some neighborhood of CC. The image F(C)F(C) is then a compact Riemannian submanifold of R4\mathbb {R}^{4} with boundary and therefore has a volume. Justify the following formula:

vol⁡(F(C))=∫01∫01∫01∥F∗(∂∂x1)∧F∗(∂∂x2)∧F∗(∂∂x3)∥ dx1 dx2 dx3. \operatorname {vol}(F(C)) = \int _0^1\int _0^1\int _0^1 \left\| F_*\left(\frac{\partial }{\partial x_1}\right) \wedge F_*\left(\frac{\partial }{\partial x_2}\right) \wedge F_*\left(\frac{\partial }{\partial x_3}\right)\right\| \, dx_1 \, dx_2 \, dx_3.

Also, evaluate the integrand if

F(x)=((1+x1)2,(1+x2)2,(1+x3)2,(2+x3)3). F(x) = ((1+x_1)^2, (1+x_2)^2, (1+x_3)^2, (2+x_3)^3).
